Adley Free After Five Days Trapped In Mine Flood
Ronald Adley, 37, freed after five days trapped in the Kocher coal mine atop Big Lick Mountain. Six others were rescued or unaccounted for as rescuers search the flooded shaft where two crewmen, Ralph Renninger and Donald Shoffler, died. Officials stopped blasting briefly as drills probed 430 feet deep. Adley walked 4 000 feet to surface and spoke of the others as the water surged. His wife and children reunited at Pottsville Hospital where he was listed in good condition.

Art Rakow of Burr Oak Iowa accepted a challenge to his self styled raw egg eating championship and gulped 64 prairie oysters in 18 minutes 15 seconds in front of about 200 spectators at McCabe's supper club.
