Ten Die As Utah Oil Well Explosion Wreaks Havoc

An explosion near St George Utah last night killed ten people and injured another. Victims include Lea Cottam and Mrs Joseph Snow with others linked to Arrowhead Petroleum and Salt Lake City. About 40 bystanders witnessed the blast as 200 pounds of nitro glycerine and 50 pounds of TNT were detonated in the well.

Samos Chios surrender to Greek rebels in Aegean aid drive

Athens reports Samos and Chios capitulated to the rebels after a visit by the rebel fleet. Government air and ground forces push toward east Macedonian rebels while Bulgaria strengthens frontier watch. Kavalla bombardment and street fighting follow rebel gains as Turkey faced embargo requests on Greek ships carrying coal and cereals.

Palmer to be tried in Texas for slaying

Clinton Palmer, 35, a sheepherder, admitted killing two Utah stockmen and seeks extradition to Utah. Texas authorities hold him on a Hopkins county murder charge related to the death of Dillard Garrett. Palmer claimed he killed Oliver and Shumway to protect his wife Lucille Garrett and his land. Lucille Garrett, 14, denied being his wife and vowed revenge.

A Roswell High School music program entertained Rotary Club members featuring Evelyn Polk Mabel Sands Bertha Emmett Jean Newell Mur dell Potter Peggy Lee Joyce Wyly Merle Haynes with Thel ma Perry at the piano. Ernest L Harp Jr and Lee Henrichs performed on trombone and piano Veronica Rhea sang with Janice Huff as accompanist Lee Henrichs demonstrated piano mastery. Mrs Connor Dies in Roswell After Week Long Illness

Mrs Bruce P Connor a Roswell woman died at St Marys hospital after an illness of one week She was 34 born January 14 1901 in Hillsboro Alabama She lived in Roswell since 1911 and was active in First M E Church South Roswell Woman's Club P T A and as a reader with famed talent for Negro spirituals She is survived by her husband three stepchildren and her father Funeral services will be held in Albuquerque with cremation at Fairview Park Crematory Only family members attend arrangements handled by Talmage Mortuary.

Tax commission seeks cattle stock data in New Mexico

Santa Fe March 7 AP Little Bo Peep and Little Boy Blue with cows are cited in a study by Byron O Beall New Mexico chief tax commissioner. He says government asks stockmen for a list of stock to justify stock reductions and notes 1 800 000 cattle claimed by stockmen against only about 900 000 reported for tax. He urges county assessors to reconcile state and federal figures and notes livestock tax rates are low while many cattle remain unlisted.

Roswell Gun Sheds To Be Repaired Under State Plan

Roswell gun shed repairs and new stables are planned under a $20,000 appropriation to the New Mexico National Guard. Gen. R. C. Chariton says materials will be bought and labor supplied by federal relief agencies, with projects at Clovis Roswell Socorro Carlsbad Albuquerque Las Cruces Las Vegas Taos and possible Deming Silver City.

Santa Fe AP reports the governor plans a short three to four day break after the legislature ends to rest and have time to think over boards to be named. He says he cannot find time even to answer personal letters.

H A Elcock of a Colorado sugar beet company will speak to farmers at the Chamber of Commerce tonight at 7 30 on growing sugar beet seed.
