Tax budget measures pass during New Mexico special session
A summary says lawmakers approved tax hikes and spending moves before adjourning. The package raises the gross receipts tax to 5.125 percent July 1, expands food tax, increases cigarette tax by 75 cents, and boosts personal income taxes for about a quarter of taxpayers. It also expands low income tax rebates, adds a 90 day tax amnesty, and allocates 5.6 billion in stimulus funds for public schools and state programs for 2011 with bonds planned on property taxes.
