PSC dismisses Southern Union plan

The New Mexico Public Service Commission dismissed Southern Union Gas Co.’s bid to pass wildcat drilling expenses to customers. The action ends the case with Shell Oil contracts withdrawn and opposition from Gov. Bruce King cited as a factor. A new hearing was scheduled for April 2.

Withdrawal Ends PSC Contract Battle Over Four Albuquerque Wells

In Santa Fe, District Attorney J. Lee Cathey announced Southern Union Gas withdrew its contract with Shell Oil and vacated the PSC hearing on the deal. Depositions were planned for March 12 regarding Richard Montoya's lease options and a Nuclear Corp interest, but exhibit 7B was withdrawn and the case collapsed as Southern Union ceased pursuing customer charges for the $3 million well project.

Woman driver of locomotive makes first solo run

Christine Gonzales a 21 year old from Socorro became perhaps the nations first woman railroad engineer she gathered a string of ore cars behind a 125 ton locomotive and sounded the diesel horn seven times before leaving town Her job followed a stint at Hurley where she trained dumping ore cars at night and she won the Socorro assignment after no other bidders were available stating she would adjust to being a girl in a mans job.

Burro Death Highlights Roswell Burro Sale Case

Fifteen burros bought Feb. 18 by Jim Scott of Roswell from Roswell Livestock Auction Co. mostly died after transition to domestic life. One mare died while delivering a foal from malnutrition and debility. The BLM plans a suit against the New Mexico State Livestock Board over the sale. Scott buried the mare on his farm west of Roswell. nine of ten pregnant females remain.
