A Maryland man, Patrick Charles Monahan, 32, Forestville, Md., was charged with robbing the Albuquerque National Bank on Wednesday of more than 10 500. He was captured after a highway chase east of Albuquerque following gunfire with police. He was arraigned that night by U S Commissioner Robert W McCoy with bond set at 50 000 and requested an attorney.

Helbing Announces Candidacy For New Mexico Governor
State Rep. Stephen Helbing 43 a Roswell oil and gas broker and GOP floor leader announced his bid for the Republican nomination for governor. He plans a March 18 kick off in Albuquerque and a Roswell campaign dinner this weekend expected to draw over 1,000. He joins Tom Clear Pete Domenici and Ed Hartman as GOP contenders. Helbing, in legislature since 1965 and minority leader since 1967, vows yearly programs, stable leadership and reduced legislative confusion. He moved to New Mexico in 1951, later opening an Albuquerque oil and gas brokerage, and is married with four children.
