25 years ago on March 3 1988 Army 2nd Lt Samuel H Hammond III son of Samuel H Hammond Jr of Lincoln arrived for duty with the 9th Field Artillery. Hammond an artillery operations specialist is a 1979 graduate of Slippery Rock State College in Slippery Rock Pa. Officials of Hondo Oil and Gas Co of Roswell and Wesmarc Co of Houston Texas signed a letter of intent to sell about 300 Hondo mineral and royalty properties for an undisclosed price, said Phil Helmig spokesman for Hondo in Roswell. Hondo is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pauley Petroleum Inc now headquartered in Roswell.
