District Ranger Dick Cooke said operations will pause when temps fall below 40 degrees or during cold precipitation. Fresh tranquilizer darts will be loaded before the horses are shot, with dosage based on animal weights from 700 to 1200 pounds.
President Carter said final arms control deals require a direct meeting with Soviet leader Brezhnev. He predicted Geneva TAL talks will resolve key issues and said he sees no Cuban missile threat tied to Geneva progress. He noted low poll ratings but praised his willingness to tackle tough issues.
Heavy trucks will continue on Main Street until a bypass is completed as Brown Road work advances. State officials report a four mile section between West Pine Lodge Road and West Second Street should finish by May 1, with more road sections and a new East Bitter Lake Road bridge to be integrated into the truck bypass plan.
Hale R H Hale principal of Mountain View Elementary in Tucumcari was named Outstanding Principal of the Year 1977 78 by the New Mexico Association of Elementary School Principals at the convention banquet. Runners up were Ralph O Hall of Farmington and Rudy Salazar of Gallup.
Two men armed with a sawed off shotgun and a pistol robbed the Southland 7 11 at 912 E Second St in Roswell. They ordered clerk Charles Dutchover and customer Danny Jaramillo to the floor and kicked them. The pair fled in a white over dark green 1969 Pontiac with less than 100 dollars taken. No arrests yet.
