NMMI Roundup Jack Chapple Poyas Set Two Records

NMMI Colts track set two state records in the Class A meet as John Poyas and Jack Chapple starred. Chapple broke his own school mark five times with a 61-11.25 in the state meet, while Poyas held the discus record at 163-7. Brad Ingles added a javelin mark of 183-7 and Mike Wood ran an 880 in 2:02.0.

NMMI Swim Team Rates As the Best

The NMMI Colts swim team posted nine straight wins and captured state titles with Blair Foley earning All-America honors for a 1 09.6 in the 100 yard breaststroke the first such selection for a New Mexico lad. Bruce Wiggins Mike Minces Darrell Dorcy Walter Peacock Tom Vinson and Dick Roks starred as state champions in multiple events.

Lobos Break Two Records In Golf Win

The New Mexico Lobos won their fifth Skyline Conference golf title setting a team record 899, breaking the previous 965 mark. Jack Miller also earned a new medalist record with 222 for 54 holes, while Vic Kiine and Jerry Truax led a 1 2 3 for NMU with 224 and 225 in a playoff. Team scores: New Mexico 899, Denver 941, Utah 944, Colorado State College 949, BYU 958, Wyoming 972, Utah State 1004, Montana 1028.

YMCA and Kartsman Sponsor Building Fund Kart Race

Pirates Pitcher George Witt Injured by Line Drive

St Louis AP reports Pirates pitcher George Witt will miss several days with a severe bruise to his right ankle and a sprained left ankle after a line drive struck him in the eighth inning. X-rays showed no fracture and Witt was carried from the field on a stretcher. Don Taussig of the Cardinals delivered the shot that hit Witt.
