Energy Dept Adopts Gasoline Tilt Plan To Raise Prices

The Energy Department adopted a gasoline tilt pricing plan that could lift average prices by about 12.4 cents a gallon over two years and push unleaded to $1 a gallon within a year. Officials say adjustments add to 5 to 8 cent rises due to crude oil costs since the Iranian cutoff.

House approves tax cut bill compromise

The New Mexico House approves a 50 million tax cut bill with a 40 dollar exemption credit on food, benefiting a family of four with 160 dollars and doubling for seniors and the blind. Rep. Roswell Science Fair Showcases 494 Projects at GHS

Roswell area students in grades four through eight display 494 science projects at Goddard High School on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The awards ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. in the gym, after which projects are dismantled. Science fair chair Faye Blevins calls the tally an all time district record.

Students showcase projects in eight category fair

Mrs. Blevins praised the students as unsung heroes and noted about 700 pupils contributed to projects. Each project earned first or second place in its area with entries from individuals or teams of two across eight categories.

Science fair judging and awards set for tonight

Judging of 494 entries across animal, earth, life and physical science begins at 6 30 p m with interviews Saturday morning. Ribbons for first to fourth place and a grand award per grade accompany conservation district prizes. Judging criteria include creative ability, scientific thought, thoroughness, skill and presentation.

Five-Story Backflip After Parking Garage Crash In Oakland

James Barber, a 56 year old engineer, drove wrong pedal and did a five story backflip from a Oakland parking garage. He suffered a broken shoulder bone fractured ribs and a black eye. A doctor called him very very lucky. He was pulling into his fifth floor space when he hit the accelerator instead of the brake. The car broke through an ornamental wall and landed on its top on the street.

McAlpine Named to ENMU Board of Regents

Gov announces William A. McAlpine Jr. of Roswell appointed to Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents succeeding William F. Brainerd whose term expired in January. McAlpine, 45, heads Pioneer Savings and Trust and Pioneer Mortgage Co. and serves as director of the New Mexico Savings and Loan League.
