Roswell Parents Council urged the City School Board to adopt a closed campus lunch hour at the two high schools next year and to discontinue junior high driver training. They cited teen driving as a major concern and cited disruptive noon-hour activity. The board also set tax millage and stadium seating policy with reserved sections and ticket prices.
The County School Board vetoed Max Calloway’s bid to start consolidation talks for Rio Arriba Taos and Chaves counties. Governor Campbell’s signature on House Bill 106 is needed before action can proceed. The bill allows county districts with elected superintendents to form independent districts or unite with others.
More than 160 U.S. Air Force and Vietnamese planes attacked the North Viet Nam targets Quang Khe port and the Xom Dang munitions depot. Officials cited heavy damage and four or more aircraft shot down with pilots reporting light ground fire. The operation involved Navy jets, Vietnamese fighter bombers, and U.S. Air Force planes, and promises further action against the installations aiding Hanoi.
The Senate carried a House liquor price reform bill with an unfavorable report from the Public Affairs Committee. Sen. C Fincher Neal opposed delaying debate as Neal urged all senators to discuss the measure. The committee vote was 83 against after a three hour hearing.

He projected at least 150 million dollars in annual savings and proposed cutting total Reserve and Guard drill strength from 700000 to 550000, provoking opposition over retirement benefits.
