A garden mystery seeks causes for missing plants and damaged stems. Cutworms, damping off, birds, mice, or squirrels may be responsible with practical remedies such as plant collars, fungicides, sanitation, bird scare devices, netting, and sealed covers.
The Leadership Roswell program announces the class of 2013 with members from City of Roswell Parks and Recreation and several local organizations. The nine month course includes workshops on leadership and community topics, with three new board members elected from the class. Applications for 2013 2014 close July 31 and details are available through the Roswell Chamber of Commerce.
Healthy Kids Chaves County runs a summer incentive for kindergartners through fifth graders from May 18 to July 26. Participants collect stamps by completing activities such as reading, trying new fruits or vegetables, swimming, or gardening, then claim a prize. Molina Healthcare sponsors the colorful booklets. prizes drawn July 26 at 3 p.m. in Roswell.
Cadet Fredrick Arthur Bullard son of Willis and Maria Bullard of Roswell graduated from the U S Military Academy on May 25. He studied mechanical engineering with a focus on aeronautics and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Engineers. He will report to Fort Riley Kansas for his first assignment.
