Juanita Castro Defects Denounces Castro Regime

Chicago Demonstrators Taunt Police in Second Dawn March

More than 200 Negroes paraded on Chicago's south side early today, jeering police and daring arrests. The civil rights march aimed to rally for a protest against Gov Scranton of Pennsylvania, with leaders pledging continued dawn parades and plans for a larger picket of Scranton in downtown Chicago.

Berrendo School selects E F Hutton for junior high bonds

Chaves County School Board awarded the 404000 bond issue for a new Berrendo Junior High School to E F Hutton Co as the apparent low bidder with a 3.245 percent average interest rate and total interest of 73604.93 dollars. Commerce Trust Co. of Kansas City bid 74561.38 in total interest at 3.28804 percent. The board postponed final action on the bids and will study them at the regular meeting Thursday with other bids from Basin Chemical Co. and others awaiting review.

Two Dead and Eighteen Missing in Offshore Oil Rig Explosion

An explosion and fire on a floating drilling ship off Louisiana killed two crewmen and left eighteen missing. About 42 men were aboard near Eugene Island block 273. The rig, 260 feet long and owned by Reading and Bates of Morgan City, sank in 15 minutes after the blast.

Warren Commission seeks FBI probe on Oswald diary leak

The Warren Commission asked the FBI to investigate how parts of Lee Harvey Oswald diary appeared in print amid Kennedy assassination coverage. J. Lee Rankin said the commission suspects the Dallas police department sourced the material. The panel’s full report now faces a delay past July 18.

Not Guilty Pleas Entered in Drug and Burglary Cases

William Rudolph Raines 35 of Portales arraigned on possession or disposing of drugs and not guilty pleas entered. Held on 500 dollar bond for jury trial after Dexedrine charge. Glen Orville Crowe 28 of 807 West Summit pleads not guilty to three burglary counts and is held under 2500 dollar bond for break ins at Dr R E Scotts and another office.

Henry Cabot Lodge appeared at a closed briefing for the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services committees to discuss South Viet Nam. He aims to support William Scranton's presidential bid and noted he plans to contact Dwight Eisenhower later for possible backing while asserting the war policy should not become a campaign issue. Democratic critic Wayne Morse urged U S troop withdrawal as Republicans eyed a stronger anti guerrilla effort.
