Four Whites Hurt By Baseball Bats Swung by Negroes

In Kansas City Kansas two carloads of Negro youths disrupted a white teams practice on a public diamond. Four white men were hospitalized with Rollins unconscious and Horner in serious condition. Davis and Core were treated and released. Police arrived after the youths had fled.

Slacks Stolen From Roswell Motel In Night Break-In

Frank Thompson of Denver reported 120 pairs of women's slacks stolen from his car at the El Rancho Motel in Roswell. Thieves gained entry by breaking a vent glass and stored the clothing in four suit cases.

Girls Display Dresses and 4-H Awards Highlight Chaves County

One hundred six girls modeled at the Chaves County 4-H Dress Revue and County Contest Awards Program at North Junior High. Awards covered 23 demonstration classes with Don Woodburn emceeing. 4-H Fashion Notes were read by Mrs John A Hobson and Mrs Mary Marshall presented awards with Mrs Earl Powell recognizing leaders. City Council Hikes Utility Pipe Extension Fees

In a special meeting the City Council approved increasing sewer and water line extension costs to four dollars per front foot for dry land brought into the city while maintaining a three dollar rate for land with artesian water rights deeded to the city. The changes take effect July 1.

Chief Engineer Told To Inspect Projects

The New Mexico State Highway Commission ordered Chief State Highway Engineer T. B. White to inspect federal aid road projects with funds cut. The Bureau of Public Roads was told to stop federal i AA funds on nine contracts and eight Highway Department workers. The commission plans to invite Federal Highway Administrator Rex Whitton to New Mexico to inspect sites first hand. White may take about two weeks for the inspection tour and will work with W. J. Keller. Some projects could be cleared within 30 days, with a few contracts requiring longer. A meeting with the State Contractor's Association was set for 11 a.m. today to explain actions and bidding plans.

Police search for 34 year old Jim Eakin Jr in Ruidoso after he disappeared last Saturday. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, 185 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen leaving a house under work in Ruidoso. His parents own a ranch near Bitter Lake Refuge north of Roswell.

New Mexico Road Toll Figures This Year

Road toll data shows 150 fatalities in the current year up to this date, compared with 40 in the same period last year, reflecting a sharp rise in traffic deaths noted by officials.

Teen Center Budget Approved by Roswell Recreation Commission
