Artesia New Mexico June 30 AP more than a quarter of the cotton acreage in Eddy county will be retired under a farm department plan county agents canvassed farmers for support and eliminated 1600 acres. Between 8000 and 9000 acres are to be cut in the county. The county total was about 27000 acres before reductions. Nearly all farmers chose the option plan due to high valley yields. A total of 35000 acres will be destroyed in four southern New Mexico counties.
