The New Mexican reports doctors now argue that hot eastern summers, not winter cold, largely cause consumption. They claim germs flourish in heat and dust, with cold air in Greenland deemed unsafe. Southwest winters may aid recovery, while summer travel home risks relapse and death.
Howard Leland is named chief engineer of the Panama Canal Commission to succeed John P. B. Wallace. His salary will be 30 000 dollars annually. The announcement, dated June 30, notes Stevens formerly of Chicago Rock Island and Pacific will not be affected by the notice. District Court action involving Ira J. Keebler and others is referenced in Chaves County New Mexico.
A fire partly occupying Keiths theatre on East Fourteenth Street spread to the Artesia New Mexico theatre area.
