County 4-H Winners Are Chosen
Twenty eight Chaves County 4-H members competed in demonstrations and public speaking contests at the Extension Clubs Building on Tuesday with sixty two attendees. Judges were Mrs E E Ernst Mrs Evelyn Hay and Vonnie Jasper. Top demonstrators included Robbie Crouse Eugene Hayley Andrew Tisler Danny Isler Joyce Shuey Janette Johnson Suzanne Taylor Jane Henderson Sheila Hendricks Christine Murdock Betsy Taylor Nancy Mays Carolyn Tisler Mary Sanchez. Winners earn expense paid trips to District and State Contests. first place will be announced Thursday at the Annual County 4-H Dress Revue at North Lee County.

Mississippi State Student Enters Local Pageant
Roslinda McCarter, 19, daughter of H. B. and wife, will compete in the Jaycee Miss Roswell Pageant July 8 at Pearson Auditorium. A 1960 Roswell High School honors grad, she attended Mississippi State College for Women at Columbus for one year and plans to continue studies there. She majors in English and psychology and has held leadership roles in clubs and youth groups. Her sponsor is Roswell Printing Co.

Bitter Lakes Duck Band Traced Across Iron Curtain
A pintail banded near Roswell in Bitter Lake National Refuge in January 1958 was shot in May 1959 by T Shevareva of Moscow. The band was recovered and returned to the Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington, DC, with the report reaching Bitter Lake Refuge last month.

Trades Council Pushes Grand Jury Probe of State Highway Dept

New Mexico Man Killed In Car Train Crash Near Yoder
Willis Badley 35 of Albuquerque died when his car struck a Union Pacific switch engine at a crossing on U.S. 85 north of Yoder. The train conductor said the car was traveling at a high speed and the collision derailed a 72,000 pound boxcar.

Five Killed As Plane Hits Cable Off Pacific Northwest
A light plane about 80 feet above the sea struck an offshore power cable near James Island and plunged into the water killing five aboard. Among the dead were Ned Trimble of the Kansas City Star and Ed Koterba of Scripps-Howard, who were touring the Northwest. The others were Robert Adams and Don Cornwell, both of El Paso, and E G Hines, Bozell and Jacobs VP. Only three bodies were recovered as searchers worked through night.
