Santa Fe Assessor Granted Right to Hire Special Deputy
Attorney General ruled that a county assessor in a first class county may rely on an approved budget for a special deputy, even if county commissioners later refuse to fund the expense. The San ta Fe case involved a $600 deputy salary, with the board of county commissioners refusing approval after hire. The opinion notes the law allows an extra deputy for counties with over 9,000 tax schedules and empowers mandamus to compel funding from that budget item.
