FBI Agents Killed During Pine Ridge Warrants Execution Scene

Two FBI agents Jack R. Coler and Ronald A. Williams were shot to death while serving warrants on Pine Ridge Reservation. The trio of gunmen fled as authorities hunted through the hills and inspected a house where the killings occurred. An Indian resident was reported killed in the exchange, and agents continued searching the scene as investigations began.

Miss Chaves County Crown Awarded to Cindy Corzine

A U S district court jury resumes deliberations in the Eddie Barboa narcotics trial. Closing arguments were completed before noon as the six men and six women weigh charges of possession with intent to distribute heroin distribution of heroin and using a telephone in connection with a heroin transaction. Barboa testified he posed as a seller to trap major dealers and claimed no intent to distribute.

City weighs quarter cent sales tax rise

Mayor Jerry N Smith says a one quarter of a cent gross receipts tax is a likely issue this year as New Mexico lawmakers allow cities to raise funds without a referendum. He warns without this levy the city could lose state aid next session and notes the tax could add a full cent to prices.

Mrs. Frank Smith reports a century plant in her front yard at 817 E Fifth St growing rapidly. The plant now reaches about 20 feet in height after two weeks of two feet per day growth and is eight weeks old.

GOP briefings continue for county officials in Roswell

The fourth state Republican Party briefing for county GOP officials is Sunday at Roswell Country Club with chairmen ward officials and party members from Quay Curry Roosevelt Lea Eddy DeBaca and Chaves counties expected. Jack Stahl will discuss finances registration efforts and a new preprimary nominating convention law. Joe Skeen will attend. luncheon starts 12 30 p m.
