FLETC service workers strike Artesia contract talks fail
About 50 maintenance, custodial and groundskeeping workers at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia walked out Thursday. Represented by Operating Engineers Local 953 of Albuquerque, they protest a stalled contract with Omni Corp. as heat nears 95 degrees and accuse the company of threatening tactics.

Roswell gamers head to EVO in Las Vegas
Local Roswell group United Gaming Alliance led by founder David Crawford and vice president Thomas Clark will compete in the Evolution Championship Series in Las Vegas July 16 to 20. Second Sifuentes arrested in Herrera murder case
The Chaves County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a second suspect, Samuel Sifuentes, in the Daniel Herrera killing off the Old Clovis Highway Roswell. Sifuentes was detained at Wal-Mart around 3 23 p m. He is linked to Matthew Sifuentes, previously arrested in El Paso Texas while attempting to re enter the U S with a college ID. Both are charged with first degree murder kidnapping and third degree tampering with evidence in the June 4 case.

Fires Burn Hayfields and Hay Barn Near Roswell
Rural fire crews from Roswell Sierra Midway District 8 and Berrendo battled two large blazes over two days. One fire, sparked when a bailer ignited dry hay near Marley and Eisenhower Roads, burned about 60 acres before containment. A hay barn at Three Amigos Dairy near West Darby and Vineyard Roads also burned. no injuries were reported and causes were not yet known.
