A tornado touched down in Laredo Texas blowing through a neighborhood. Firemen rescued a peacock kept in a clipped wing coop that was left perched atop a telephone pole. The bird was unharmed but unable to fly.

Big Fire Strikes Cairo Ill Hudson Warehouses

Flames engulfed a five block warehouse complex in Cairo Illinois triggering evacuation of 3000 to 4000 residents as acrid fumes spread. Officials said no link to racial violence and most residents returned after fumes were deemed non toxic. Ira Hudson III estimated damage at 150000 dollars.

Baldwin Named To Honor Roll

Denton Texas Mark Baldwin Jones of Roswell was named to the North Texas State University honor roll by Dr J J Spurlock. The spring list includes 912 honorees with 153 earning all A’s for the 3.0 honor list and 759 on the 2.5 list midway between A and B. Jones is son of Mrs A Rutherford at 617 S Hemlock.

The 12th annual Ruidoso Summer Clinic sponsored by the New Mexico chapter of the American Academy of General Practice runs July 21 to 24 at the Chaparral Motor Hotel. Sessions from 8 am to noon cover chronic diarrhea in childhood infections of the nervous system immunization heart disease isotope use anemia birth control abortion and sterilization. Valdez Case Rested in 1967 Rio Arriba Raid Trial

In Albuquerque AP report Judge Garnett Burks denied four defense motions in the Juan Valdez trial over false imprisonment and assault with intent to maim or kill. Prosecutors rested after Nick Sais testified Valdez shot him in Tierra Amarilla during the 1967 raid. Cordova identified Valdez as holding a gun in the county commission room. Jaramillo’s whereabouts hindered witness testimony.
