Roswell district weighs booster club policy changes

The Roswell Independent School District board held a Friday afternoon meeting to discuss revisions aimed at complying with Title IX and the New Mexico School Athletic Equity Act. Critics warned reforms could paralyze booster groups, while a committee including Interim Superintendent Susan Sanchez will review proposals before presenting further revisions.

Man Found Dead in Roswell Alley Identified

Roswell police identified the man found in an alley Wednesday morning as 26 year old Matthew L Van Note. An autopsy was performed in Albuquerque to determine the cause of death and investigators await the final report. The victim's brother mentioned a long history of alcoholism.

Roswell Community Kitchen History and Current Leadership

Brad Ussery, manager, describes the Roswell Community Kitchen as a long standing community effort. He recalls it began in 1982 by Jeanne Kunko and Raye Duran, and notes he joined about six years ago after returning from Albuquerque. A board member friend, Matt Hinkle, helped as the organization faced a June drain crisis and backed up drains with a freezer full of meat.

Volunteers Fuel Local Food Pantry Effort Amid Bloodshed

Bill Cooper, president of the local pantry board, thanks volunteers from Assumption Church, Calvary Chapel, First United Methodist and others for a shared program. The pantry, funded by donations, reports a fiscal year ending October 31 and serves hot lunches Monday through Friday with weekend sandwiches, averaging 98 weekday lunches and 36 weekend meals in May. New Life Church recently joined the participating churches and groups.

Roswell Legislator Rules Out Run for Congress

In Roswell, State Rep. Greg Nibert says he will not seek the U.S. House seat next year, urging a younger candidate from southeast New Mexico instead.
