Simmons Makes No 1 Pick as 76ers Back International Trend
Ben Simmons, an Australian forward from LSU, was selected first by the Philadelphia 76ers, the first No. 1 pick for the franchise in 20 years. The draft set a record with 14 international first round selections and 26 overall. Simmons’ college numbers highlight 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, while questions remain about his outside shooting. The crowd in Brooklyn cheered the pick hoping for a turnaround after a 10-72 season.
