Ineligible stamp recipients cited in New Mexico study

More than a quarter of 25 700 New Mexico families on food stamps in late 1973 were ineligible. The Health and Social Services Department says 26.1 percent were ineligible, costing about 2.6 million dollars, with 41.8 percent of recipients receiving the wrong amount. The survey covered 705 families and notes some improvement from the prior six months. Ineligibility often stems from failure to show work registration for the head of household.
