AMA Vetoes Calls To Boycott Medicare

The American Medical Association rejected efforts by states and doctors to boycott the proposed federal Medicare plan. It affirmed that doctors will resist any system hindering judgment or care and reviewed actions to monitor the law's impact. In Washington, the Senate Finance Committee approved the Medicare bill 12 to 5, clearing the final legislative hurdle as it nears Senate passage after House approval.

City Manager Hoyt McMinn said Roswell will begin a mosquito control program at once using dust and spray. The initial operations will run along the two rivers and the southwestern section of the city.

The Senate Finance Committee approved a $6 billion broad health program for Americans 65 and over and raised Social Security payments, sending the bill to the Senate floor for a July vote. Civic Leaders See Big Operation at Ellsworth

A 33 member New Mexico delegation from Roswell and Albuquerque toured Ellsworth AFB S C visiting the 28th Bomb Wing and the 44th Strategic Missile Wing with 150 Minute Man ICBMs. The group also toured Rapid City and Mt Rushmore learning about local industry and tourism before returning with impressions of Air Force readiness and deterrence. Girl Dies After Camp Outing Fall

A 15-year-old Albuquerque girl Beth Mee Burney died after falling 25 to 30 feet from a cliff during a three day church group camp near Ponderosa. She was dead on arrival at an Albuquerque hospital Wednesday after the accident while climbing with others.
