Santa Fe Paper Carries Story On Larson Report

Phillip E Larson reported a survey of Chaves county government not accepted by the county Taxpayers Association. A meeting voted to withhold acceptance until a committee of R H McCune Warren Cobean and Larson reviews errors. Blackout schedule announced for Roswell city's defense drill

City officials released an exact plan for Roswell’s Saturday night blackout. Main Street sections will keep power to street and window lights while residents must turn off lights on cue. The 9 0 0 p m signal blocks streets, 9 30 p m whistle triggers west side lights off, with a 9 32 p m full five minute whistle followed by east side lights off ending at 9 37 p m.

Aluminum From La Slot Machines

Baton Rouge Louisiana police announce 1 200 illegal slot devices seized and smashed yielding 5 000 to 6 000 pounds of scrap metal mainly aluminum. State police superintendent Steve Alford says the metal could build a military airplane and offered the scrap to Britain.

Farm Bill Eyes Record Aid for U S Farmers

Washington June 24 a record breaking 1 060 500 063 farm bill to aid about 30 million persons in agriculture awaits final action in the senate. Coupled with a mandatory crop loans act the measure aims to provide prices support and likely bring farmers their most prosperous year since the war era. Senate leaders expect swift approval probably this week after more than three months of maneuvering.

Plenty Fireworks Now Scarce in 1942

Washington reports fireworks for this Fourth of July are plentiful due to materials made last year but warns that 1943 supplies may be restricted. Charles H. New Mexico Military Institute Receives Defense Fund Grant

The New Mexico Military Institute will get 33,490 from the state defense fund for the completion of its building program. Secretary Rolla R. Hinkle announced the allotment after a Santa Fe finance board meeting. Plans include two new barracks to raise capacity to 700 cadets, to be finished by September 1942, with other facilities already completed or under construction. The funds are provided via a Roswell city borrowing used to retire a mortgage on the municipal airport and acquire additional airport land.

State Agencies Face 10 Percent Budget Cuts in New Year

Santa Fe reports 1941 42 deductions approved by the finance board, offset by restoring some current year cuts. The general fund ends the year with an overdraft of 40 60 thousand dollars, far better than last year, and funds exist to liquidate. Exemptions include fee funded offices and agencies and police, auditor, secretary of state, attorney general, supreme court, and other state bodies.

Steps Taken to Weld Defense Forces in A Fighting Team

General George C. Marshall announced new steps to tightly coordinate American land sea and air forces. Navy dive bombers will work with ground troops in late summer maneuvers, arranged with Admiral Harold R. Stark. War games with 350000 troops are planned in Louisiana in August and Army field training tops off in November with further maneuvers in the Carolinas.

Urton Called by Brother's Illness in Clovis

W C Urton was summoned to Clovis today due to his brother Ben Urton's serious illness. Ben, a former well known resident of the Cerrendo area, is on a Portales farm and has been taken to a Clovis hospital where he received a blood transfusion.

Fourth of July Program At The Bottomless Lakes

Roswell plans a July Fourth celebration at Bottomless Lakes State Park sponsored by the Twenty Thirty Club. Japanese mission head sent to Bangkok from Indo China
