A major fire at the St Louis World’s Fair threatened several pavilions including the Texas building. Firefighters saved priceless exhibits as winds held, with the blaze largely confined to the Kiio house area and nearby structures.
New York June 24 H E Huntington resigns from the post of vice president of the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. No action taken yet. Marvin Hughitt president of the Chicago and Northwestern and Union Pacific director has been named to succeed him. Hawley’s response to the move has been placed before the directors. The resignation follows a long dispute between Southern Pacific and Pacific Fraction properties.
Consul General Gunmere reports a message from Perdicaris and Varley stating they are leaving for Lasculy and are expected to arrive in Tangier tonight. The dispatch comes from Tangier and notes the arrival timing.

Butte Montana June 24 the Butte Miners Union will give 25000 to Colorado miners to press a legal challenge to the Colorado supreme court decision upholding military government and suspending habeas corpus and imprisoning President Moyer. The case tests Governor Peabody and General Bell to deport miners without trial.
Kansas City market notes show cattle steady with varied ranges across categories. Native and southern steers and cows, stockers, feeders, bulls, calves, and western cattle all listed with price bands. sheep and muttons also unchanged, lambs and range sheep quoted within typical spreads.

General Rennen kampff’s cavalry opposes the Japanese right flank in a mountainous theatre hindering cavalry actions.
The president announced three new appointees to the cabinet expanding the administration. Each nominee brings prior government or private sector experience as the administration seeks policy breadth and leadership capacity. Confirmation hearings are expected in the coming weeks.

Charles Swayze a life insurance company employee shot Miss Effie Alvord twice in the private office on the eleventh floor of the Chamber of Commerce building in Detroit and then leapt to his death. Miss Alvord was not seriously hurt. Neighbors saw Swayze attempt to throw her from the window before the final shots.
