Soviets Open Vast Areas To Travelers

The Soviet government released an official note opening wide areas of European and Asiatic Russia to unrestricted travel by foreigners. The move follows years of restricted entry for diplomats and visitors, though many regions remain off limits. Mrs. Perle Mesta will be the first to benefit, with plans to visit Ukraine and key sites like the Dnieper Dam and Zaborozhe steel plant.

Television Station KSWS TV Begins Regular Programs

KSWS TV Channel 8 in Roswell New Mexico starts daily broadcasts from 4 to 11 pm with a 1 to 4 pm test pattern. Affiliated with ABC and DuMont, it serves 181 000 residents on southeastern New Mexico. Owner John A Barnett, oil producer and engineer, filed for the station on April 7 1952.

Fire ruins in Philadelphia warehouse collapse

FBI agents and city fire officials probed the ruins of a five story warehouse that collapsed and burst into flames destroying baled rubber and tanned leather from government stockpiles. Hundreds of firemen battled the blaze for hours as black smoke blanketed North Philadelphia and halted a Reading Railroad line overpass. Many firefighters suffered smoke inhalation or minor injuries.

Eisenhower Sends Brother on 10 Nation goodwill tour

President Eisenhower dispatched his brother Dr Milton Eisenhower on a 10 nation goodwill mission to South America. The Penn State College president left National Airport with Secretary Dulles and South American diplomatic officials to Caracas Venezuela for the first leg. He traveled with his wife and four government officials from State Treasury and Commerce.

Police Court Fines Total $130 in Reckless Driving Case

Fines assessed this morning by the police court amounted to 130 dollars. Two men faced charges of reckless driving and lacking valid licenses. One case carried a 60 dollar fine and the other 70 dollars.

Two-Hitter Tossed At Elks in Yucca Saints Top Malco

Jerry Reeves pitched a two hitter as Ace Auto defeated Elks 16-6 in Yucca Little League. The Saints beat Malco 11-3 in Honda Little League with Reeves supported by six first inning runs and eight more in the second. Bob Alexander homered for the Saints who had ten hits and eleven runs, aided by a six run fourth inning.
