May CPI Shows Slower Inflation and Pay Rise

The May Consumer Price Index rose four tenths of a percent, easing from April’s six tenths. The 12 month rate fell under 10 percent for the first time in over a year, with CPI at 159.3 and spendable earnings up 4.4 percent due to tax cuts. Beef prices jumped 7.6 percent while most other foods declined.

Wandering Wheels cross country riders stop in Roswell

About 46 cyclists from the Wandering Wheels program, sponsored by the Church Resource Center of Taylor University, paused in Roswell during a cross country ride from Oceanside California to Charleston South Carolina. Led by Bob Davenport the group travels 120 to 150 miles daily and expects to reach South Carolina by July 4 aboard The Possum II bus with two cooks aboard.

Viet Namese use captured bombers in Gulf of Thailand clashes

U S intelligence says North Vietnamese forces used captured U S built A37 light bombers against Cambodian troops during disputed island battles in the Gulf of Thailand. Barnett Feed Yards Files Bankruptcy in Albuquerque

Barnett Feed Yards Inc of Hagerman filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition in Albuquerque listing debts at 1.629 million and assets at 2.213 million with 1.5 million in real property. The 20 000 head capacity custom feedlot is Chaves County’s largest and faces possible disruption to cattle raisers. U S cattle prices rose to their highest in nearly two years with Omaha choice grade steers at 52 15 per 100 pounds for the week ending June 15.
