President Roosevelt seeks higher tax rates in new message
President Roosevelt asked Congress for a broad tax increase in a surprise special message. He urged higher levies on large personal incomes imports on large inheritances and gifts and a steeper corporate income tax schedule starting at 10 3 4 percent and falling to 6 3 4 percent to replace the current flat rate of 13 2 4 percent.
