Firefighters battle Dog Head Fire near Albuquerque
Crews fought extreme heat and spreading flames as the Dog Head Fire in the Manzano Mountains east of Chilili grew to about 26 square miles. Approximately 700 personnel, air tankers and helicopters worked to protect homes after 24 structures were destroyed. Evacuations expanded north and east as authorities sealed a state emergency. Governor Martinez urged caution and evacuees to follow warnings while investigators probe the fire’s cause.

Roswell man seriously burned in East Fourth Street house fire
A 64 year old Roswell man sustained serious burns in a early Friday house fire in the 500 block of East Fourth Street. Firefighters found the structure heavily involved but quickly controlled the fire. A second man, 52, escaped injuries. cause is under investigation. The burn victim was airlifted to a regional hospital.

Roswell approves emergency water line repair and airport lease cut
The Roswell City Council approved a 99 thousand dollar emergency repair for a 100 foot section of a 48 inch water line on West Country Club Road and an airport lease reduction funding 306 thousand dollars for improvements at Roswell International Air Center. City engineer Louis Najar noted a leak near a 20 foot concrete section, with bids from four firms and Adame Construction of Los Lunas chosen at 99,330 dollars.
