Roswell natives Melissa Mathis and Alexis Torres, both in their late twenties, were arrested June 8 in Alamogordo for the murder of Sharon Twitty, a Burger King employee found with multiple gunshot wounds near the rear door at 117 S. White Sands Blvd. around 4:15 a.m. Twitty was not on duty at the time.
District Attorney Janetta Hicks defends the Jail Diversion Program calling it worth the time and money. Natasha Sing, a former optician and dental assistant, now works as a CASA volunteer in Chaves County. She was chosen to be Emma the service dog handler after CASA applied for a courthouse therapy dog program.
Emma trained over two years and Sing over two weeks to work with the courthouse dog Emma. Rescue retriever became a family member and handler in Santa Fe after Assistance Dogs of the West fostered the pair. Emma’s owner bonds and prior cheerleading coaching are noted.
