Torrents of lava descend Mt Etna as earthquakes strike nearby villages. Explosions and falling ash fill a wide area while authorities rush troops to assist fleeing residents. The lava advances at about 250 meters per hour, threatening the region.
Reports claim a peasant counterrevolt is being crushed with village burnings. Jugo-Slav troops have been deployed to the Macedonian border amid rumors leader Stamboulsky may still live and lead resistance. Fresh reports say Samboulssky survives and heads a peasant force.
Dallas June 18 Wiam Condon 74 a county farm inmate whose mysterious death is under investigation has been identified by Stanley Gowan Denton county as a former tenant of Gowans farm Condon was found with a fractured skull beside his cot He carried a considerable sum in a money belt and had money in several banks at one time Gowan recalls Condon acted queer and believes he may have been killed for his money.
A series of four large forest fires in the San Mateo Mountains Datil National Forest were sparked by a Thursday lightning storm and are defying Forest Rangers and local ranchers. Two blazes cover 600 to 700 acres. the others exceed 100 acres each. Firefighting efforts are hampered by rough terrain and drought. Forest Supervisor ASHW Douglas asks the public to carefully avoid campfires to prevent further outbreaks.
Mrs Mary FeCreighton faces trial for the alleged murder by slow arsenic poisoning of her brother and mother in law. Charles Avery, 18, died while the husband is also charged, accused of being under his wife's influence to share the plot and obtain life insurance.
In London on June 18, Britain debated a proposal to allow United States searches of foreign vessels within twelve miles of the American coast in exchange for ships being allowed to keep liquor if their bars are sealed while in American ports. Ronald McNeill, under-secretary of state for foreign affairs, announced the plan in the House of Commons.
Santa Fe Railroad and Montgomery Ward provide free prize trips to the National Boys and Girls Congress in Chicago this fall. Five New Mexico counties will award trips for crop and livestock projects with $125 prizes, and $120 for domestic science. Winners must be bona fide Extension Service participants in good standing and must take the trip to receive the prize.
In WAGAFACHIE Texas on June 16 Dan Catt aged 36 rode his 31st train journey, a 350 mile trip lasting about 12 hours, while Gat from Pontotoc Mason County had never ridden a train until summoned as a witness in a local court.
Mrs T H Craig and her daughter Lee Hla departed yesterday by auto for Clovis. They will spend several days visiting Mr and Mrs Rozcog Pearce. The trip follows prior family travels and includes stops in Artesia and Denver signals.

In Bastland Texas on June 18 the murder trial of L A Starkey was scheduled for June 27 in district court. Starkey is indicted in the death of James D Pet Brown a noted wrestler and road contractor killed near Cisco. Starkey has posted 7500 dollars bond and remains free.
In St Paul on June 18, lists of candidates for Knute Nelson's Senate seat were released. Nine sought the Republican nomination, three the Farmer Labor endorsement, and two Democrats. Names include A. O. Preus, Oscar Hallam, Sydney Anderson, Thomas Schall, Halvor Seenerson, Ernest Sandeen, J. A. A. Burnquist, John J. Martin, Victor Power, Magnus Johnson, L. A. Fritsche, James Carley, and Francis Cary among others. Party strategists anticipate a Republican or Farmer Labor winner, with strong interest in the field and postcollapse primary dynamics. The abolition of the convention system has intensified preprimary maneuvering among contenders.
The fourteenth annual Rotary International convention opened in St Louis with seventeen delegates and wives from Australia and New Zealand. St Paul Minnesota June 18 A light vote is being cast as Minnesota goes to the polls today to test the administration s policies and nominate Republican Democratic and Farmer Labor candidates for the late senator Knute Nelson seat There is a general lack of interest and the light vote is interpreted as favorable to the administration candidate Governor Preus who is endorsed by President Harding and whom his supporters declare will win.
In Fort Worth Texas on a June date, U S deputy marshals escorted convicted stock promoters to Leavenworth Federal Prison. General Robert A. Lee received two years, J W Carruth one year and a day, L G Reynolds one year and a day, B H Peeler and Chance lor of Dallas each one year and a day.
Las Vegas June 18 The annual Cowboys Reunion program has been set with regular cowboy contests and many specialties. The wild cow milling contest will headline as five wild cows and five cowpunchers race. entries drawn daily to perform before the stands. Three days include bronc riding steer roping steer riding bulldogging fancy roping riding wild horse races and more with a parade on July 2 opening the events. Prizes for floats already attract Forest Service and Game Warden participation.

The railroad denied the shopmen their essential rights as laboring men to which Congress has declared them entitled.
