Dexter center uses science to save region's fish
The Southwestern Native Aquatic Resources and Recovery Center near Lake Van in Dexter houses about a million dollars in equipment for genetic research on threatened and endangered fish. With 16 staff, the facility breeds and studies species such as the Rio Grande silvery minnow and the Razorback sucker, overseeing 1 to 2 million fish yearly across indoor tanks and outdoor ponds. Researchers lead or join roughly 30 studies on fish and other aquatic life.
