Pirtle Edges Hamill in Close Chaves County Race

After counting, Pirtle leads Hamill by one vote in the Chaves County primary. Pirtle, Roswell farmer, is the presumptive Republican nominee for State Senate District 32, which includes Chaves Eddy and Otero counties. County totals show Pirtle 1,018 and Hamill 1,009 with turnout around 25 percent.

Teen dies in rollover on US 285 near Roswell

A 16 year old and a 19 year old were in a 2000 Ford pickup when it rolled multiple times on US 285 north of Roswell. Javier Pena died en route to UNM Hospital after being extricated. Joseph Pena was injured and flown to Lubbock for treatment. US 285 was closed about two hours as investigators ruled fatigue a contributing factor.

Roswell Fire Department Pulled From Little Bear Fire

Roswell Fire Department crews assisting with the Little Bear fire in Ruidoso have been demobilized due to federal forest fire fighting regulatory ratings.
