Roswell Council Amends Detoxification and Misdemeanor Rules

Roswell City Council passed two ordinances Tuesday night amending detoxification procedures and misdemeanor handling. City Attorney James B. Stapp said the changes, required by state statute, shift from arrest to ticketing for misdemeanors and define intoxicated person procedures. Mayor pro-tem L. C. Stiles and Councilman William McCoy cast no votes against the measures.

Moon rock tour includes Roswell leaders at center exhibit

Japanese industrialists Fumio Maruta and Seishi Tamaki joined Roswell figures Tuesday at the Roswell Museum and Art Center to view a moon rock on display through Thursday. City actions covered zoning hearings, street light debates, park funding, and facility bids as part of routine council business.

Roswell Leaders Receive Silk Table Cloth Gift

Japanese industrialists tour Roswell moon rock exhibit

About 23 Japanese business leaders toured the Roswell Museum and Art Center visiting the Dr Goddard Wing, dining with local hosts, and viewing a moon rock loaned by Gov. Bruce King. The group, part of the Japan Defense Society, also planned industrial packets for Roswell’s prospects and possible cattle shipments to Japan.

Preliminary hearing under way in Roswell murder case

John Pridemore faces open murder charges in the June 1 shooting of William Bryant Holley. Dr. David LaMure testified the death was from a gunshot to the heart, and Sgt. George Dennis supported the proceedings. Defense attorney Donald Brown vowed to prove self defense. The visiting group included industry figures from Nippon Express, Hitachi, and Sony among others, touring the Goddard workshop exhibit and Roswell aerospace ties.

Pact signed to enforce peace in South Vietnam

The United States North and South Vietnam and the Viet Cong sign a new 14 point communique to enforce the January peace in South Vietnam. Kissinger and Tho plan a separate signing with only the United States and North Vietnam later. The measures order Saigon forces and the Provisional Revolutionary Government to cease hostilities at 0400 GMT on Friday.

NMRC Names Dr. David Hoehn Medical Director

The New Mexico Rehabilitation Center hires Dr. David Hoehn as medical director, transferring from Fort Worth Texas. An American citizen since 1944, he brings board certified physical medicine and rehabilitation expertise and extensive medical society leadership. He will assume duties in Roswell in July.

Joplin to Lead Security National Bank in Roswell

Charles A. Joplin will become president of Security National Bank in Roswell effective August 1, succeeding James A. Clark who leaves to become executive vice president of Albuquerque National Bank. Clark has led Security National since 1964 as assets rose from 11 million to 41 million and deposits from 10 to 35 million.
