An advisory committee of seven, appointed by C N Moore, will meet tomorrow to study Bassett and Johnston’s county expenditures report. The first in a series, the study is non audit and seeks constructive ways to cut costs, with committee names kept private.
In Lovington New Mexico a Lea County district court jury is to hear closing arguments in a retrial over damages claimed against the United States Potash Company of Carls for alleged mine refuse that harmed Pecos Valley lands and crops. Eleven dozen witnesses testified in the 16 day trial with a new venue. a prior jury awarded about 75 000 dollars.
In 1938 labor moves clash over membership curtailment and a CIO founded in Pittsburgh last fall plans to meet leaders. The agenda centers on unemployment, old age pensions, war activity, and Roosevelt administration stance toward the CIO amid rivalries with the AFL and United Mine Workers.
The National Labor Relations Board ordered El Paso Electric Company to reinstate 53 striking workers with back pay from February 29, 1936 and to disestablish the El Paso Electric Company Employees Alliance as a bargaining agency. One deceased worker’s heirs receive wages lost from February 29, 1936 to death. The board cited interference and an injunction suit as causes of the strike.
San Francisco June 13 A judge transferred 5 year old Krehe Osborn kidnapping case to juvenile court as Margaret Polly Weil who is not yet 18 will be handled by children's court. The move followed a telegram from Weil s mother Mrs Graham Weil of Nassau New York stating a June 18 1921 birth date. Weil was seized in San Jose after abandoning the child and leaving a $1600 ransom note signed Graham demanding return.
Washington reports a re awakened France is to be portrayed to Roosevelt and Hull as united and robust. Ambassador William C. Bullitt, who arrived from Paris for medical care, plans to sail back next Monday after briefing on France’s improving finances and return of capital.

London reports Britain will respond to any aggression with force while seeking a European settlement. Cabinet members watch Moscow and Berlin as William Strang renews talks in Moscow. Halifax defends policy and pledges aid to Poland if Danzig is threatened.
In Jersey City the ACLU turned over the bailiwick of mayor Frank Hague to the CIO and other unions after a large street meeting. Roger Baldwin and Norman Thomas addressed 10 000 to 15 000 people, asserting constitutional open streets and parks for public meetings. Thomas was heckled as he left Journal Square but police controlled the crowd.
Nesquehoning Pa June 13 authorities exhumed 14 year old Joan Stevens to autopsy whether abuse occurred before she was shot by a state trooper a week ago. District attorney Albert Heim brought the body back to settle rumors and resolve public demand. Major Lynn G Adams said Corporal Benjamin Franklin charged with homicide in the death was relieved from duty.
Forecasts indicate fair conditions across New Mexico south region while north remains unsettled tonight and Wednesday with little temperature change. Colorado sees partly cloudy skies tonight and Wednesday with cooler northeast areas. Arizona remains generally fair tonight and Wednesday with slight temperature shifts. West Texas expects generally fair conditions and warmer readings in the Panhandle on Wednesday.
F. L. Austin and H. G. Davenport of Kemp Lumber Company have returned to Roswell after a business trip to Alamogordo.
Funeral services were held for James Prestridge, Hot Springs high school student, who drowned in Elephant Butte lake Saturday. Boy Scouts formed a guard of honor. He leaves parents and a 16 year old brother. Companion Samuel Belk of Hobart, Oklahoma, was rescued by onlookers.
In Flint Michigan on June 13 a clash occurred between United Auto Workers factions at Fisher Body Plant No 1. About 200 workers from AFL and CIO sides fought briefly before police separated them. No serious injuries were reported and GM plants resumed normal operations after the melee.
The two young children of Hob Gann Lovington merchant were badly burned and may die after an explosion in the Gann home three miles north of Lovington. Eli Jones Mrs Ganns father struck a match to light a gas stove triggering a butane gas incident. Billie Gann 4 and Jeanette 2 suffered extensive burns. Jones was burned but likely to recover. The house caught fire and neighbors extinguished the blaze.
H. O. Hodson district superintendent of Southwestern Public Service Company received extensive first degree burns to his head face and right shoulder with lesser injuries to chest and back while near a switchboard at the electric plant around 9 this morning. He remained conscious and walked normally as doctors assess the arc incident. Company manager H. E. Samson said Hodson did not suffer an electric shock and the exact cause is under investigation.
Four hundred Kansas penitentiary inmates began a strike at 6 a.m. after descending to the prison mine in Lansing. They demanded rights including wearing silk underwear they had bought. Warden Amline conceded the underwear demand but rejected other requests. Robert Murray, the mine superintendent, was at the 750-foot shaft with the strikers.
Alex Berry secures a residential remodeling permit for 913 North Richardson. The project value is listed at 825 dollars.
Alf M. Landon spoke before a Massachusetts group and urged criticism of New Deal economics. He warned against a third-term push for President Roosevelt, calling for a foundation for sound recovery and jobs. He argued unity behind the next president and blamed dissident voices on both extremes for hindering government aims.
Santa Fe highway officials announced bids to be opened June 27 for four projects totaling about 600000 dollars. The Lamy to U S 285 junction road covers 8.3 miles with drainage and grading while traffic remains on the present road. Other work includes oiling 7.2 miles on U S 60 between Encino and Willard widening and resurfacing 22 1/2 miles on U S 70 from Las Cruces to the state line north of El Paso and blacktopping 22.4 miles on U S 70 between Roswell and Portales. Completion will leave a single unpaved gap on U S 70 from Clovis to Lordsburg crossing the Mescalero Reservation.
Vincent Lawlor, a middle aged steel worker, was ordered held for trial at Old Bailey on charges of firing shots near the Duchess of Kent and the Princess Royal. Prosecutors say he rode a bicycle with a sawed off rifle near royal residences and fired at the Princess Royal’s residence on June 4 and near the Duchess of Kent’s home on June 5. Lawlor’s attorney claimed no harm or criminal intent, while the defendant entered a plea of innocence.
Approximately one million pounds of wool will be offered for the growers by Bond-Baker Company at a sealed bid sale tomorrow at the company's warehouse on East Fourth Street. The wool is all from southeastern New Mexico clips of the current season. Most of the Boston wool trade is expected to be represented at the sale.
State police sergeant Jack L. Nichols says cars are being stopped to verify 1939 licenses. Those driving without a license will be cited to court and warned to obtain current brake and light stickers, with over 500 warning stickers already placed.

In Union county 95 percent kill and 400000 acres treated. 1850 tons of poison mix distributed weekly from Clayton Des Moines and Grenville stations.
