Local WWII veteran’s burial returns spark family memory
McLellan recalls great uncle’s sacrifice as Pvt. Prince’s remains are returned to Clovis. She plans to meet with military officials to learn how his remains were located and when they will be brought home. Prince is the third Portales veteran buried there this year after Pvt. Homer Mitchell and Pvt. Vernon Long. Prince’s name appears on the World War II memorial wall near the Clovis library, and records note he died September 22 1942 in a Japanese prison camp. The Manila American Cemetery tablet lists his death. Find a Grave notes one dog tag and wallet with pictures and cash among his belongings.
