Memorial cross marks hunter's spot on Capitan Mountains
Walter Richard Vuksan, an Air Force sergeant killed in 1955, is honored by a 10-foot steel cross set in rock and cement on a canyon ridge near Arabela New Mexico. His father Dan and step-brother Edward led three cementing trips in 1956 1958 and 1959 to place the monument and a plaque. The cross remains weathered yet standing, a stern reminder to be careful while hunting.
