State money is sought to back a plan in the south central region. Bill Thompson urged ranchers to report hatch dates to the Chaves County Extension Service. Stephens waits on acreage infestation counts before asking the governor. Meeting estimated 2.5 million acres of New Mexico range land should be sprayed.
ENMMC Board of Trustees formally asks County Commission to accept the low base bid of 3,519,000 by Page & Wirtz for construction and renovation of hospital facilities. The request followed a special meeting with trustees, administrators, and the Hospital Auxiliary to discuss the planned improvements and costs.
Roswell state Rep. Colin R. McMillan declared he will not run for governor in 1978 due to time and financial constraints. He said he has not planned a formal announcement and is not actively pursuing the race. Joe Skeen has announced for the GOP and John Salazar seeks the Democratic nomination. Bruce King and Robert Ferguson have shown interest.
The event concluded with oath swearing as about 460 delegates pledged to defend the Constitution. Jon Barela of Las Cruces High and Pete Pierotti of Los Alamos named as New Mexico's Boys Nation delegates, with Dave Holmes of Albuquerque Eldorado named governor for 1977 and Debby Hood honored.
