Laird Sees Vietnam Troop Pullout Moving U.S. Toward Peace
Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird said Nixon's decision to withdraw 25,000 troops from Vietnam brings the United States closer to peace and marks a shift to Vietnamization. He noted that the exact units to depart will be chosen by a joint service task force in early July, with many troops to be held in reserve in Okinawa or Hawaii. Roswell Man Treated For Facial Lacerations
A Roswell man 22 year old Dean Serna was treated at St Marys Hospital for facial cuts said to be inflicted by several unknown attackers in the 400 block of E Bland Street. He was released after treatment as police continue the investigation. In a separate report H M Kelly reported a yard right valued at 55 dollars was taken from his property at 209 W Country Club Road.

Four Nabbed Near Coyote Arraigned
Santa Fe AP four persons arrested Sunday near Coyote were arraigned before Judge Gilbert Lopez. Lopez dismissed three and fined Sam L. Petty 20 dollars for lacking vehicle registration papers. Wilkins De Becker and Hutchings faced dismissal of misdemeanor charges, bonds set at 500 dollars for three and 1,000 for Petty, after roadblock arrests by city county and state police.

Dies of C O Thrower Rites Tuesday in Roswell
Clyde O. Thrower 78 of 510 S Sunset died Sunday at 3 12 am after years of ill health. Funeral service set for Tuesday at 2 pm at Ballard Chapel with Rev. Buford Coplen officiating. Burial in Memory Lawn Memorial Park follows. He lived 51 years in Roswell, born August 23 1890 in Lincoln County. Survived by wife Myrtle, two daughters, four sisters and three brothers. He served in WWI and worked for several employers including Southwestern Public Service Co. and the Black Ranch. Preceded in death by son Billy Vernon Thrower in 1955.
