Health Insurance For N. M. Employes

Santa Fe June 8 Burning of the Holy Cross san itarium at Deming did not derail a legislative plan to provide health insurance for state county school district and municipal employees of New Mexico. A new law creates machinery for public groups to contract with any properly equipped hospital in the state for treatment under group rates. The plan is voluntary. the state board of finance must approve contracts. The act originated to set up Holy Cross as a state hospital, but was broadened to authorize contracts with any New Mexico hospital. Governors or other proper officials may enter group hospital contracts for all illnesses with charges kept minimal, with monthly payments deducted from salaries with employee consent. The Holy Cross fire occurred after the law’s passage, leading some to think the act was defeated, but it remains in effect. See us for FHA loans and insurance.
