Ray Newlin Services Set For Saturday
Funeral services for 17 year old Ray William Newlin are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Ballard Chapel with burial in Memory Lawn Memorial Park. He died Thursday in an accident on the Newlin ranch near Roswell. The service will be led by Capt. Robert Bell with Rev. Walter Orr officiating. Music by Mrs. Jo Tyner and Mrs. Geraldine Barbee. He was a Goddard High School student and a Boys State delegate elect. Surviving are his mother Naomi Kidder Newlin, nine brothers, seven sisters, and his father Clarence B Newlin.

Budgets Under Review In City and County Hearings
State officials conducted budget hearings on the next fiscal year. The county proposed budget of 926,635 faced minor changes with several appropriations including 221,929 for general funds 219,130 for salaries and 346,320 for roads. The county plan adds a 10 percent road department raise creates two election clerk posts and earmarks 60,000 for road equipment 12,245 for sheriff cars and radios and 7,200 for a county maps draftsman. The city budget of 3.2 million followed with few changes from this year.
Fire incidents sweep multiple locations with mixed outcomes
A grass fire at 2901 N Elm caused no damage while a separate blaze at 1313 N Richardson damaged a fence from burned trash. A Hiway House lounge fire was a false alarm. A shed fire at 914 S Mulberry destroyed the shed and contents. A car fire at Main and Church produced steam with no owner located. Frances Williams of Memphis is listed as owner of the vehicle.

Hunt for missing Air Force plane widens in Aleutians
Anchorage AP reports a large search effort with at least 15 military aircraft and two Coast Guard vessels scouring the western Aleutians for an Air Force reconnaissance plane missing with 19 aboard. The last radio contact placed the aircraft near Amchitka Island during a routine flight from Shemya to Eielson AFB near Fairbanks.
