Four Roswell Finance Committee members approved two items to allow city to issue procurement RFps for two projects and to create three new special revenue funds for the Roswell Museum and Art Center and the Nancy Lopez Golf. Full council vote due June 11 amid 31 million dollar next year cuts and furloughs up to 80 hours.
The Roswell Independent School District board will discuss starting demolition of the old Del Norte Elementary School at a 6 p.m. Tuesday meeting in the Administrative and Educational Services Complex. Due to health orders, only the board president will be in person. others join by conference call and the meeting is streamed on RISD YouTube.
In Chaves County the final weeks of the May primary saw fundraising and spending by area legislative candidates. Third Primary reports filed with the New Mexico Secretary of State show results through May 26. County Commissioner Jeff Bilberry outraised and outspent challenger Randy Robertson in the District 3 race, with Bilberry taking in 1950 and spending 8327 versus Robertson 1200 taken in and 4016 spent.
The New Mexico Department of Health announced one new positive COVID-19 case in Chaves County among 218 statewide cases. Chaves County now has 51 known cases and two total deaths, with 43 facilities identified with at least one case in the last 28 days.
In Minneapolis a judge set bail at 750000 each for Tou Thao Thomas Lane and J Alexander Kueng charged with aiding and abetting in George Floyd's death. The trio appeared in Hennepin County District Court as Floyd memorial services took place nearby and Derek Chauvin faced separate charges. Floyd's killing, shown by bystander video, sparked a nationwide protest movement.
