Early Approval Of 50 Pay For The Soldier Seen
Washington June 5 early congressional approval of 30 monthly minimum pay for the armed forces seemed likely today with soldiers sailors and marines with dependents possibly required to contribute 20 or 22 a month toward family support. The house prepared to take up a family allowance bill providing 50 monthly for wives of military men earning 378 or less, 12 for the first child and 10 for each additional child with the soldier contributing 22 toward dependents and the government paying the rest. The senate backed measures would let the enlisted man elect higher contributions and add allowances for dependent parents and siblings while a separate provision would enable selective service to fix call order under the president.
