Hospital costs rise after price freezes end
Roswell area hospitals report wage increases and higher material costs since the 1973 price freeze ended. At Eastern New Mexico Medical Center administrator Charles Thomas cites a 26 percent rise in hospital costs and a 14.58 percent jump in materials in 1974 with cotton goods and linens costing significantly more. At a State Corporation Commission hearing in Roswell on Tuesday Roswell Airlines pressed for authority to run carrier service from Albuquerque to southeastern New Mexico including Hobbs and Roswell The Hobbs Chamber of Commerce and partners argued the new service would harm Texas International Airlines which has long operated in Hobbs Glenn Gavin of the Hobbs chamber said TIA could pull out by 1973 but community efforts have strengthened TIA and new third level carriers would compete for passengers and cargo The commission will weigh need and ability to serve with a ruling not expected for about 90 days after a July 9 Las Cruces Zia Airlines hearing
