A detailed portrait of Beginners directed by Mike Mills, starring Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer. The film follows a son recalling his late father Hal who came out as gay after his wife’s death. Melanie Laurent and Mary Page Keller bolster the warm, observant mood with nuanced performances.

L.A. Noire review blends noir homage with interactive flaws
The game L.A. Noire from Rockstar and Team Bondi aims to emulate 1940s film noir using 32 camera filmed actors to render lifelike faces. Protagonist Cole Phelps rises through the LAPD, solving 21 cases via evidence gathering and interrogations, but execution lags with tedious scenes despite strong performances including Aaron Staton and John Noble. Three stars.
