US seeks warrant for return of Acoma shield from Paris auction house
U S authorities request a federal warrant to seize the Pueblo of Acoma ceremonial shield listed in a Paris auction as part of a civil forfeiture case. Officials say the shield was likely stolen in the 1970s and sent to France, with ongoing questions about enforcement and restitution through French courts and U S agencies. The Acoma Pueblo welcomes the move to recover the artifact amid fears it could vanish if not seized, risking a long delay before repatriation.
