Plans for Black Range highway dedication announced

Silver City New Mexico July 27 Plans for a monster dedication program inaugurating the new Black Range highway providing a shortcut from Hillsboro to Silver City and a scenic trans continental route across southwestern New Mexico into Arizona are being completed. Grant county and Hot Springs chambers cooperate with committees led by James S. Ryan Myron K. Clark and Robert M. Wiley to choose a site for the exercises to be attended by Gov. Clyde Tingley state officials engineers and regional mayors.

Woman 83 Killed In Wagon Crash In Tatum

Mrs. Schultz an elderly resident of Tatum was fatally injured when a car struck a wagon she rode in Thursday night local authorities said. The accident occurred in the Tatum area and the victim was identified as 83 year old Mrs. Schultz.

New Mexico Scouts Plan Jamboree Preparations

The New Mexico Boy Scouts will send 40 members to the Washington jamboree August 21 to 30. They will practice August 15 to 17 at the U S Indian School before heading east, with adobe pueblo themed displays. Roswell hosts a training camp prior to departure. Separately, Henry B. Barnett, 22, a transient from Chestertown Maryland, lost his right leg when he was struck by a moving freight train at Gallup railroad yards. He is expected to recover.

In a set of afternoon contests Philadelphia edged Boston five to six behind Davis and Wil son in a nine hit effort. New York topped Brooklyn six to four with Babich y Lopez handling the mound duties. Santa Fe July 27 AP State Land Commissioner Frank Vesely will tour Hobbs area to examine sale or lease of part of the Old Hobbs townsite. About 40 acres are involved with officials from several cities noted in the delegation.

Two Killed In Car Collision Near Cheyenne

A crash 25 miles east of Cheyenne on the Lincoln highway killed Thomas Edward Robinson aged 60 and his son Charles 16 who were returning from Cheyenne Frontiers Days. Six others were injured on the bus, including Dorothy Harvey and Leland Lewis from Pine Bluffs. Bus driver George Gossick reported speeds around 45 to 50 mph.

Oil man dies after changing tire in Hatch

Joe Y. Biggerstaff Abilene refinery official died here after a sudden illness while changing a tire on the highway north of Hatch New Mexico He was rushed to town for treatment but died within an hour The physician cited heat prostration and a chronic heart ailment as the cause He left a wife and three children and was returning from California at the time of his death

Mrs. R. D. Cullen Hurt After Fall At Home

Mrs. R. D. Cullen broke the bone in her upper left arm at the shoulder joint and suffered a deep cut on her forehead when she tripped over a hose in the backyard of 411 South Kentucky. She required stitches and was reported to be recovering today.

Grant Co Plans Extensive Road Work In Grant County

Silver City New Mexico July 27 AP A meeting with state highway officials and Chamber of Commerce directors will push an extensive road program for new state projects. Plans call for rebuilding and oil surfacing the Silver City to Lordsburg highway 89 miles and tentative oiling of the Black Range gravel road. Estimated cost about 150000 dollars.
