Crop Dusting Pilot Killed In Flaming Plane Crash
Gerry G. Gillenwaters 23 of 404 S Union Ave died when his J-3 Cub crop duster owned by Jack Haflin crashed five and three fourths miles south of Roswell at 6 24 a m. The crash ruptured lines to Walker Air Force Base causing a brief power outage. Witnesses included R L Hargrove Dave Chesser and Jack Haflin. Gillenwaters survived Navy service 1944 46 and leaves a widow two sons and several relatives. The body will be sent to Springfield Missouri for burial.

Road contracts awarded for Roswell and Roswell to Frazier projects
New Mexico state highway commission awarded two road contracts in Santa Fe. Armstrong and Armstrong of Roswell received 555 467 for South and North Main and Union Avenue work, including traffic lighting and two bridges. Jack Adams of Santa Fe won 297 192 for the Roswell to Frazier segment. Both include 100 daily liquidated damages and 250 to 200 day completion windows. Local unskilled labor via the New Mexico Employment Service will be used where possible.

246 Air Force ROTC Trainees To Arrive At Walker AFB
Two hundred forty six Air Force ROTC cadets from 15 schools will begin a four week summer encampment at Walker Air Force Base. Twenty two cadets will be commissioned as second lieutenants on completion. The program includes visits to Strategic Air Command aircraft displays and a chance to ride in a bomber.
