In New York on July 26 Major Herbert Slocum denied a published report that Russell Sage had bequeathed all his estate to his widow. Mrs Sage's nephew disclosed the denial and clarified the matter.
A severe cloudburst in the Mont Cenis region wiped out most of Fourneaux at the French end of the tunnel. Chicago July 26 The board of review set the estate of Marshall Field at 180 million dollars for this year requiring the executors to pay the county 2.5 million dollars, a sum exceeding the last years’ personal property taxes. The bulk of the payment is to be borne by the estate.
